Newcastle City Council has said it accidentally put 54,000 credit and debit card details on a system that could be accessed externally.  The lapse was discovered during a test of the Council’s IT security.  Following the test the council closed down the servers concerned and tightened security.  (Computer Weekly magazine)

IT systems at the Department of Work & Pensions have failed to stop the loss of £2.5bn due to benefit fraud and error.  The DWP Resource Accents Report 2006-2007 by the National Audit Office, said one reason for the high level of error was inadequate IT system integration.  (Computer Weekly magazine)
