An Isleworth woman who stole nearly £40,000 by making illegal benefits claims
has received a suspended prison sentence. Sandra Bromfield, 40, claimed
benefits whilst working for Brent Primary Care Trust. Her theft included
£26,861 in Income Support, £9,824.06 in Housing Benefit and £3,174.89 in Council
Tax Benefit a total of £39,880, one of the largest individual frauds uncovered
in Hounslow for many years. At Isleworth Crown Court last month, she was
sentenced to 41 weeks in prison, suspended for one year. She must also complete
60 hours of community service and pay back everything she stole. Cllr Gerald
McGregor lead member for finance said “This is a totally appropriate sentence
for such large-scale individual fraud. We thank the court for its tough line
and endorse its decision. Hopefully it will act as a deterrent to other people
in the borough who illegally claim benefits and think they’ll get away with it.,
and the harder it goes on the longer it goes on, the harder you’ll be punished.
Come clean before it’s too late”. (Hounslow Matters magazine)
